The Illinois Kappa chapter of Pi Beta Phi was founded at UChicago in 2013.

The fraternity colors are wine and silver blue, the flower is the wine carnation, and the symbol is the arrow.

Pi Beta Phi’s twelve founders formed the first secret society for women patterned after men’s Greek letter organizations in 1867 at a time when only five state universities admitted women. These courageous women set the stage for a thriving organization that continues to enrich the lives of many during their collegiate years and beyond. Throughout its history, Pi Beta Phi has helped young women develop meaningful relationships with others while reaching their personal potential. These relationships help sisters adapt to college life by providing a sense of belonging, mutual support and guidance. Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women distinguishes itself in the Greek world by leading the way as one of the founding members of the National Panhellenic Conference.

Our Philanthropy

Read > Lead > Achieve® is Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic effort, which inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential, creating a more literate and productive society.  We believe in the power of reading. We believe reading always has been — and always will be — a powerful step toward a life of enduring impact. We believe that when one out of four children grows up unable to read, that’s one child too many. For more than a century, we’ve committed ourselves to creating a more literate and productive society.
One child … one moment at a time … one life changed forever.
